The International Round Table on Materials Criticality (IRTC) convened its 24th conference, delving into the intricacies of raw materials in an ever-changing global landscape. Among the highlights of the event was the presentation of the SCRREEN project, shedding light on critical raw materials (CRMs) and their significance in various sectors.
The conference started with a series of engaging workshops, paving the way for enlightening keynote speeches by renowned figures such as Edson Krenak, Joseph Herzog, Hiroko Shinkai, Karol W. Bednarek, and Luis A. Tercero Espinoza. Attendees were treated to a diverse array of sessions, including discussions on emerging raw materials policies, forecasting CRM supply and demand, sustainable value creation, and emerging sectors and materials.
A standout feature of the event was the single-day introductory program organized by the IRTC Training team. Led by experts Luis Tercero, Dieuwertje Schrijvers, and Alessa Hool, the program provided participants with a comprehensive understanding of criticality and the evaluation of CRMs. Attendees delved into the EU assessment methodology, gaining insights into its composition, factors, indicators, and common data sources. Armed with this knowledge, participants could reproduce a standard EU criticality assessment for a given material, empowering them to navigate evolving CRM policies such as the EU Critical Raw Materials Act.
The SCRREEN project, showcased during the conference proceedings, exemplified the collaborative efforts to address challenges related to CRMs. Through its innovative approach, SCRREEN aims to enhance the sustainable management of raw materials, contributing to a resilient and resource-efficient future.
