Are there any alternatives to CRMs?

The energy transition, which aims to reduce the use of fossil fuels, results in a massive need for materials used previously only in small quantities: materials for instance to make electric motors and batteries. Unfortunately, in the EU we currently have to rely on the import of these materials or the goods made from them. Research and industry are working on possible alternatives, but failing to find them could seriously impact our ability to achieve future renewable energy targets.
